Lingcod are actually not cod at all -- they are in the same group of fishes as sablefish, Pacific rockfish and scorpionfish. This bottom-dwelling fish only occurs on the West Coast of North America and can be found at depths of 1500 feet or more. Lingcod flesh is naturally blue-green prior to cooking.

Most lingcod on the market comes from Canada and the United States.

  • Lingcod are actually not cod at all -- they are in the same group of fishes as sablefish, Pacific rockfish and scorpionfish.   • On the West Coast, lingcod are now managed under an innovative new ‘catch share’ management plan. Bycatch is down 75%, and conservative catch quotas have limited the catch of overfished rockfish. Additionally, an innovation boom in gear design and fishing behavior has helped trawlers avoid bycatch hotspots and keep sensitive species out of nets.
