Bluefish is a ubiquitous ocean fish except in the eastern Pacific. The bluefish feeds by pursuing and attacking other fish. It gravitates to warm waters. Bluefish grow up to 4 feet (1.2 meters) and live up to 9 years.

Commercial Sources

Bluefish are found in the subtropical waters of the Atlantic, Indian and Southwest Pacific Oceans, including the Mediterranean and Black Seas.

The main sources of bluefish are the United States, Turkey and Brazil.

Capture Methods

Bluefish come from marine fisheries, not fish farms. They are primarily caught with gillnets and bottom trawls.

Additional types of fishing gear include pound nets, handlines, traps and seines.
